The various sections of Parc du Bic

More than lodging, it is the perfect way to appreciate Parc du Bic in harmony with nature!

The various sections of Parc du Bic praise ornithology, one of many reasons to come to Parc du Bic. The following three birds are characteristic of this wonderful paradise.

  Common eider
The common eider is a stocky marine duck with a thick-neck and recessed forehead. The male is characterized by his black and white feathers. It is the only North American duck with a black belly and white back. The female is rather brown. The down of the female is used in the making of the warmest sleeping bags in the world. You can easily observe the Common Eider from the shore in summer since the most significant nesting site of the estuary is at Bicquette Island.

  Double-crested cormorants
The cormorant is a deep-sea diver. The lack of waterproof natural oil that covers most other marine birds' plumage, allows the cormorant to dive easily. After diving and fishing, it must dry its feathers to be able to fly again. It nests on cornices, flat cliff surfaces and in trees near water. It is often seen on rocks in the Bic harbour and Anse à l'Orignal. It has a thin beak with a hooked end.

  Guillemot
Small black bird with a long pointy beak, the "guillemot à miroir" is characterized by its wings marked by large white spots and its deep red feet. Skilled divers, they nest in small groups on the park's rocky cliffs and feed on fish, shellfish, mollusks and seaweed. They can be seen in Anse à l'orignal, more specifically in Anse des pilotes.
